I will be instructing hoop movement at the Hoop Flow Love, Mother City Hoop Convention this April!
Check out their blog post below for the scoop:
The first Rock Your Hoop took place in Sea Point, Cape Town on March 19th 2016. To be honest, Sandy and I kind of threw it together last minute. We had just been married and arrived back from honeymoon up the east coast of South Africa, having done very little to zero admin for Rock Your Hoop. We called on our friends in the flow arts community to help us out and filled up all four slots for the full day of workshops.
We had Sandra Dee doing movement meditation within the hoop, Mbalenhle (Mbali – “Mbalenhle Fire’s Alight”) doing twin hooping basics, myself (Basil) doing tosses and balancing and finally Thalia (Tippy – “To Be Tippy” visiting from Chicago) giving an experimental workshop on box tech with staffs translated into double mini hoops.
While the workshops were awesome our turnout was low and as with many first time events Rock your Hoop made a loss but that is not stopping us. Last year was a lesson well learnt for us which is exactly why you are reading this now and not a week before.
Onward and upward! Rock Your Hoop Cape Town 2017 is just around the corner on April 1st. No it’s not an April Fools prank. We’re for real – serious about hooping and serious about having fun. There will again be four workshops from some of the most talented and inspiring hoopers we know. It’s a full day of four 90 minutes workshops. You can choose to attend just one or spend the whole day with us. Each workshop will have a brief recap session which will be recorded and sent on so no one will forget anything.
The Rock your Hoop vision is to grow from four workshops in one day to a full weekend convention, unearthing South Africa’s hoop heros and bringing hoop addicts together to learn and grow from each other. This ideal is directly in line with Hoop Flow Love’s vision to grow a wider South African hooping community. So besides Rock Your Hoop being an awesome day filled with some of the best Cape Town has to offer, it also serves to connect, grow and inspire the hooping community.
